Proper care in the field.
Make your mount the trophy you always dreamed about by taking a few minutes to read and follow the tips listed below...
Fish
Wrap fish in a wet terry cloth towel. Place the wet towel in a plastic bag and remove air to seal tight.
Place in the freezer and freeze solid.
If you can't get the fish frozen in a reasonable amount of time, use the wet towel and place in a cooler full of ice.
It is important to keep the fish moist for the best results.
All fish are not created equal. Therefore, good photographs will help in duplicating the exact color of your fish.
Birds
Use a damp cloth and cold water to wipe any blood and dirt from the plumage.
This is especially important for the white or light-colored areas.
Place the birds carefully in a plastic bag and remove air to seal tight.
When placing the bird in the bag, use care not to damage the tail feathers.
Also, by turning the head back along the body, the feathers will lay smooth.
Freeze solid.
Game Heads
Most game heads will be mounted in the full shoulder style.
For this mount, it is necessary to provide all of the skin from the head down to just past the front legs (the farther down the better).
Skin the carcass as far up the neck as possible creating a tube with the neck skin.
When you get as far as you can, cut through the neck and spinal column.
Place the complete hide with head and antlers attached into a garbage bag and secure top.
Freeze solid.
Do not cut the throat or split the brisket too far up the chest, as this may show in the finished mount.
Animals
Specimens to be mounted life size may be placed in a plastic bag and frozen solid.
